MOE 2003

Afghan refugee camp

March 2003

We raised $425 during Week of Compassion to help the people of Afghanistan recover from years of war and civil strife. This money was used to buy 10 blankets, 2 school desks, 93 antibiotics, two minefield probes, one midwife kit, and 2 shelter kits, which each contained a tent, ground cloth, tarp and 4 blankets.

October 2003

We had a huge Bake Sale and raised $300 to help Sherry Christoffer secure a seizure response Dog through Paws With a Cause.

November 2003

We raked leaves as a service project to give a hand to people who needed help .

December 2003

We provided 20 wool blankets to help start an overflow homeless shelter which will provide a safe and warm space for homeless people to sleep on cold winter nights.

November and December 2003

We held an Old Fashio2003 Bazaarned Holiday Bazaar, where we sold crafts and candies to raise $2,505. We used this money to send 125 rabbits to Cameroon through Heifer International. This project will also make animal health care more accessible to farmers and develop training manuals. Many of the villages are in isolated areas where malnutrition, and environmental destruction are rampant.

During our Holiday Bazaar we also raised $621 for local agencies that benefit the poor. We chose these agencies:
Table to Table is the only food rescue organization in Iowa. In 2003, they rescued and distributed over 558,000 pounds of food to soup kitchens, shelters, and agencies that serve the poor.
Domestic Violence Intervention Program helped over 1400 people in 2003. They believe that everyone has the right to live free of fear and harm.
Overflow Homeless Shelter will use the M.O.E. grant to buy a first-aid kit and 4 car seats to transport homeless children to temporary shelters.
Free Medical Clinic, which serves uninsured people who do not have access to health care will use the money to buy medicine for their clients..
